West Midlands wedding photography review of 2021

Jan 19, 2022 | Wedding

2021 was a funny old year wasn’t it? After a year of what felt like endless lockdowns, restrictions and no weddings in 2020, I was hopeful that 2021 would be better. It was a slow starter but boy did it deliver! It felt like an explosion of joy! With ongoing restrictions, my first wedding of the year wasn’t until May but as the numbers of guests allowed at weddings increased. More of my couples went ahead with their weddings, some had been postponed, two, sometimes three times. It was a crazy busy year, which saw me shooting a full year’s worth of weddings crammed into the last 6 months of the year.

I photographed weddings all over the West Midlands, on roasting hot days, in torrential rain, with just 8 guests and with 130 guests. I worked at some beautiful venues that were new to me, such as Davenport House, Thorpe Garden and Foxtail Barns and some of my regular favourites – Alrewas Hayes, Iscoyd Park and Shustoke Barn. There were marquee’s in fields and at family homes, tipi’s and intimate restaurants, I loved them all! It would be way too long a post to show every single wedding, so I’ve just chosen some of my favourite images from the year.

Golden hour couple portraits

I love taking some romantic couple portraits just before sunset, know as ‘golden hour’. This magical light, happens during the hour before sunset and despite the name, only lasts for about 15-20 minutes, so I’ll often ask you to give me just 15 minutes of your time, after the meal or before your first dance (depending on what time of year it is) so we can capture some photos in beautiful light. It’s always worth it!

Fun Bridal Party group photos

Photo’s with your Bridal party, don’t have to be boring! These are usually your favourite people, so as well as taking the classic group photos with your squad, I always like to mix in some more creative shots like the next few below.

Groom getting ready photos

Let’s not forget the boys! If you’re getting ready at the same venue on the morning of your wedding and the timings work, I like to pop and see the boys near the final stages of getting ready to get a few photos of the Groom.
